SFTE European Chapter – Technical Visit Report
The European Chapter of the Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE) had the pleasure of visiting Grob Aircraft SE, hosted by Marino Scholz, Member of the Board. The technical tour was guided by a member of the Manufacturing Team, who provided in-depth explanations and first-hand insight into the company’s production processes.

Technical Tour Highlights
During the visit, participants were able to explore several key areas of Grob Aircraft’s manufacturing capabilities:
Grob Aircraft Hangar
A walkthrough of the main hangar showcased the ongoing aircraft operations and production workflow.
Parts Manufacturing
Metal Workshop – Demonstrations of precision metal fabrication and structural component manufacturing.
Composite Repair Workshop – Insights into composite material handling, repair techniques, and structural restoration.
Paint Workshop – Overview of surface finishing processes and quality standards.
Carbon Fiber Components & Fuselage Manufacturing
Attendees observed the production process for carbon-fiber structures and fuselage sections, including lay-up techniques and curing procedures.
Fuselage & Wing Integration
The tour continued through the integration line, where major aircraft structures come together and are prepared for systems installation.
Avionics & Systems Integration
The final stage of the visit highlighted how avionics suites and aircraft systems are installed, tested, and validated prior to delivery.

Technical Presentation: G520 EGRETT
A dedicated session was held on the G520 EGRETT, presented by Martin Hinterwalder (Test Pilot, Euro Flight Test – EFT).
Martin shared detailed insights from his flight test experience on the G520, including unique operational characteristics and lessons learned.

Following the technical program, attendees gathered for an informal social event at Hotel-Gasthof ADLER, providing an excellent opportunity to network, exchange impressions from the tour, and strengthen connections across the European Chapter community.
